This Greenway follows the old Viseu branch line (off the Vouga Valley line) and the sections that are currently operational run through the districts of Viseu and Sever do Vouga. The track starts near the mouth of the Mau River, at km 66.450 and ends at Fontelas, at km 76.902, covering a distance of 10.452 km.
The track runs through five tunnels and a bridge that is over one hundred years old, which are all part of the Greenway. The Poço de Santiago bridge is a monumental bridge that is a symbol of the entire region and is the municipal icon of the Sever do Vouga district. Considered to be one of the highest stone bridges in Portugal, it reaches a height of 28.5 meters and has eleven round arches that support a 165 meter platform. With a span of 55 meters, the largest arch fully spans the riverbed.
This bridge offers stunning views - though its height can make you dizzy if you suffer from vertigo. Dare yourself to cross this bridge!
The Vouga River valley has spectacular scenery and this Greenway runs through forested areas and agricultural fields. The area is renowned for its orange groves.
The Vouga Mill and Pasta Factory is right next door to the old Paradela station, which has been carefully preserved. This factory was built in an architectural style typical of the industrial revolution.
Enjoy your trip!
