Celorico da Beira, Trancoso, Pinhel and Guarda

Modernization on the stretch of the Beira Alta line between Celorico da Beira and Guarda includes the following work:

drainage;

special structures – bridges and viaducts;

standard special structures – elevated and underground crossings;

re-establishments and parallel pathways;

containment structures;
-
stations and secondary stops;

fixed electrical traction installations;

base infrastructure for signaling and telecommunications;

RCT+TP;
-
affected services;
-
minimization measures.
This work involves the complete replacement of the track superstructure with use of multi-purpose concrete monoblock sleepers and 60 E1 track, as well as alteration of the layout of the Celorico da Beira, Pinhel and Guarda stations, allowing the crossing of 750 m trains and the optimization of operating conditions.
Remodeling work will take place on stations, secondary stations, including the raising of height, width and length of platforms. Buildings will be modernized and accessibility improved. The Celorico Gare and Baraçal level crossings, located at km 168,135 and 173,173 respectively, will be eliminated, and a split-level will be built.
Construction of support infrastructure is also planned for signaling and telecommunications, as well as the adaptation of fixed electrical traction and implementation of RCT+TP.

The modernization of this stretch will reinforce the connection between north/central Portugal and Europe through the rail connection with Spain, aiming to create viable and efficient freight transport and promoting an increase in the competitiveness of the Portuguese economy.
This work will help achieve a reduction in emissions of over 120 million tons Co2eq by 2046, while also increasing the number of trains by 20% per year and the number of tons transported per year on this line by 26%.
